Program Description
Health unit coordinating students gain skills to perform clerical duties for medical units, other departments in hospitals and various health care facilities. Students utilize knowledge of medical terminology, medical procedures and diagnostic tests to requisition hospital or medical services.

rule by the U.S. Education Department. Each program that falls under these regulations is required to report:

- Costs – tuition/fees and books/supplies
- On-time graduation (completion) rate for program.
- Job placement rate for students completing program
- Median
loan debt incurred by students as provided by ED (identified separately
as Title IV loan debt and private educational loan debt)
Practical Experience
Students develop interpersonal and technical skills that are vital to their role as communicators with physicians or health care personnel, patients and patients' families. They acquire clerical competencies including transcribing physicians' orders. The clinical rotations include hospitals, ambulatory care centers and longterm care facilities during the same term.
Professional Opportunities
Unit secretaries, clerks in other hospital areas, receptionists in physicians' offices and other medical settings.
Unique Aspects
Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Certification Examination for Health Unit Coordinators.
