Medical Laboratory Technology Program Admission and Progression Requirements
Applicants will be admitted to this program by completing the general college admissions requirements, program prerequisites and returning a completed Health Sciences “Notice of Completion” form to the Admissions Office. Students can enroll in Medical Laboratory Technology courses (with an MLT prefix) by meeting specific program progression requirements described below. Space in MLT classes will be filled every Fall semester on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis.
I. General College Admission Requirements
A. Achieve admission to the College by meeting SCC’s requirements for associate degree programs.
B. Submit all high school and college transcripts
C. Complete ASSET or COMPASS skills assessment for placement in classes. ACT and SAT score that meet the minimum college requirement are accepted in lieu of placement testing.
D. Attend the SCC College Orientation and obtain the name of your assigned advisor.
E. Meet with your academic advisor
Note: Admission to the college does not guarantee progression into the Medical Laboratory Technology courses.
II. Prerequisites for the Medical Laboratory Program
In addition to program specific application procedures, students must complete the following prerequisite courses (with a grade of “C” or better) prior to enrolling in the Medical Laboratory Program
-
AHS 102 and AHS104
-
One unit high school chemistry or equivalent
-
One unit high school algebra or equivalent
III. Application to the Medical Laboratory Technology Program
Once you have successfully completed all prerequisite courses:
-
Fill out the Notice of Completion form, available from your advisor or in Admissions
-
Attach a copy of your Admission Status Report to the Notice of Completion
-
Print a copy of your SCC transcript (available through WebAdvisor) showing your final grades and attach a transcript to your Notice of Completion.
-
Take your Notice of Completion with transcript and Admission Status Report to the Admissions Office. It is important to do this as soon as your grades are posted.
-
Your file will be reviewed by admissions counselors according to the guidelines for acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program. You will be notified by mail of your status: Accepted into the program for the next cycle, placed on a waiting list or notified that the program and the waiting list have been filled.
Note: The Medical Laboratory Technology Program is accredited for a limited number of students for clinical training. When the number of applicants qualifying for progression at the same time exceeds the number of spaces available in this program, admission will be prioritized according to the date and time that the Notice of Completion application was received in the Admissions office. Any students accepted after the maximum number is reached, will be assigned to an alternate status list in the order of acceptance. Whenever any of the fully accepted students leave the program, those on the alternate list move up accordingly.
