      Radiation Protection Technology:
      Weighted Admissions Process

Because of the great interest in the Radiation Protection Technology program, we are using a weighted admission score sheet to determine who will begin the second phase of courses – the Duke Energy Cohort. Students will receive points for their grades  earned in the general education courses. The 24 students with the highest overall number of points will be accepted into the Duke Cohort. View details, including information sessions, about RPT Weighted Admissions

To be eligible for an application packet you must:
      • Be a current student of Spartanburg Community College
      • Have completed all general education and prerequisites for the certificate in the Fundamentals of Radiation Science (Review the current college catalog for this certificate’s required courses)
      • Have a minimum Program 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Unless applicant tie occurs, only courses required in program curriculum will count toward the 2.5 GPA calculator.

      RPT Application Packet
The application information will be posted on the RPT website at the appropriate time (depending on what semester). NO PACKETS will be distributed in hard copy to applicants by the RPT Program. It is the student’s responsibility to access packet information and print the forms.

What goes into the RPT Admissions Packet?
      • The Weighted Admissions Score Sheet (see sample)  filled out legibly with a calculated score.
      • GPA calculator print out verifying a 2.5 GPA.
      • UNOFFICIAL or official transcript from SCC to document the grades recorded on the score sheet
      • If you have received transfer credit from another institution, you will need a “Transfer Equivalency Report” to show these courses have been officially transferred into SCC and what grade you received.
      • Documentation (copies or transcripts) for previous degrees, diplomas, or certificates earned
      • Student Proof of Citizenship form (PDF)
      Completed Application Packets
Students who have completed all required courses prior to the end of the Spring term can begin returning  their completed packets on the designated date (depending on semester).
      • All packets are placed into a lock-box located in E-9 of the East Building. No packets are accepted via postal service or internet.
      • Do not give or leave application packets for Administrative Specialists or faculty members to place in the box.
      • No packets will be accepted after Wednesday,  May 6 at 5:00 PM.
      • All applications will be removed from the box on Wednesday, May 6 at 5:01 PM.
      • Make copies of all materials placed in the application packets prior to turning them in.
      Submitted Application Packets
      • Only those students that return a complete application packet and meet the program guidelines and program GPA will be considered for a slot in the program.
      • Once a packet is submitted, no additional items may be added
      • Incomplete packets will not be considered
      • Faculty will verify total submitted points and assign a ranking to each student based on calculated scores from completed applications
      • If any documentation is not included in a returned application packet, the packet will not be considered
      • The 24 students with the highest ranking scores will be selected for the 2009 Duke Cohort
      • Accepted students will receive a letter informing them of their status
      Waiting List
      • There will be a waiting list consisting of six students. These students will also receive a letter informing them of their status
      • All application packets become the property of the Science Department.
      • No materials will be returned to the student
      • Please ensure the college has your correct address and phone number on file
