The Automotive Manufacturing Technical Education Collaborative (AMTEC) is a multi-college, multi-state collaborative of community and technical colleges and industry partners working together to improve the preparation of highly skilled technicians and manufacturing engineers for successful work in automobile manufacturing. Colleges and industry partners from Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee, Alabama, Ohio, Texas, and South Carolina are the core members of the Collaborative. The lead partner for the Collaborative is the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). AMTEC’s global automotive manufacturer partners include BMW, Toyota, General Motors and Ford Motor Company. As one of only six AMTEC senior member colleges across the nation, Spartanburg Community College is the only community/technical college member in South Carolina and only one of 19 member community/technical colleges across the United States. The
City of Spartanburg Economic Development Department works to expand the City of Spartanburg's tax base and to provide quality job opportunities for its residents through new business development, retention/expansion initiatives, and facilitation of real estate development. The Economic Development Department serves as a liaison between the municipal government and the business and development community.
The Economic Development Department also coordinates and administers the functions of the Spartanburg Development Corporation (SDC). The mission of the SDC is to promote and assist the growth of business concerns to increase employment opportunities and expand businesses for the citizens of the City of Spartanburg.
