Success Network Tutor Requirements and Application Process
JOB DESCRIPTION
Success Network Tutors provide academic assistance to a diverse population of students through individual and/or small group tutoring sessions. Tutors use effective instructional strategies to review key concepts, demonstrate problem solving strategies, reinforce study skills, and prepare students for tests. Tutors must be on time and in attendance for assigned tutoring sessions. Tutors are responsible for maintaining accurate attendance records and effectively communicating student progress with designated staff while maintaining student confidentiality. Tutors participate in appropriate professional development opportunities including tutor orientation and training workshops.
Tutor positions allow for flexible scheduling in which Tutors typically work between 5-20 hours a week. Tutoring opportunities may be available on the Central Campus, Cherokee County Campus, and Tyger River Campus.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Spartanburg Community College student applicants:
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must be recommended by at least two instructors and/or staff members
- Must have earned an “A” or “B” in the class being tutored
- Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Must be in good academic and financial standing with the college
All other applicants:
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must provide two letters of recommendation from former instructors and/or employers
- Must provide a college transcript indicating an “A” or “B” in the subject being tutored
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants with any of the following will be given priority:
- Associate Degree or higher
- At least 6 months experience working with higher education programs
- At least 6 months experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience
SALARY: Competitive and determined by evaluating qualifications

Applications may also be submitted electronically by clicking on the ‘SCC Application’ link below. For SCC student applicants, the Release of Information for Peer Tutor Form and Reference for Peer Tutor Form can be printed from the links below. Release Forms, Reference Forms/Letters, and Transcripts may be submitted to the Success Network Office or submitted electronically via FAX at (864) 592-4915 or as an email attachment to brittonj@sccsc.edu.
