CSI: Spartanburg
A day of community service provided by college students in Spartanburg
Download CSI: Spartanburg Flyer
(PDF)
Here’s how the CSI service day event works:
Agencies/organizations seeking one-day assistance register with the CSI committee.
College students from SCC, USC Upstate, SMC, Wofford, Converse and Sherman Chiropractic College arrive at The Hangar by 9 a.m. (a neutral, central site in downtown Spartanburg, large enough to hold hundreds of students!)
Students sign in & select an agency from the list upon arrival, grab a free t-shirt & breakfast, attend the opening session, and head out to serve the registered agencies/organizations!
Students return to The Hangar for a reflection activity, discussing their experiences in small groups.
Lunch is served and student volunteers are dismissed.
The 2010 CSI (Collegetown Service Initiative) Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 9 am – 2 pm Meet at
Spartanburg First Baptist Church’s “Hanger” Youth Center (Dunbar Street, Downtown Spartanburg)
All SCC students are encouraged to take part in this county-wide community service day!
No children/ guests – this event is strictly for college students enrolled at one of the 6 Spartanburg colleges.
(There are restrictions related to the service sites). CSI is a project of the College Town consortium, a collaboration of the institutions of higher education in Spartanburg County – Converse College, Sherman College, Spartanburg Methodist College, Spartanburg Community College, the University of South Carolina Upstate and Wofford College. This is the 7th annual service initiative undertaken by students through College Town. The purpose of the event:
Instill the value of serving others in students at local colleges and universities
Expose students to service opportunities throughout the Spartanburg community
Provide interaction with students from other colleges and universities
Students will provide much-needed services to a variety of Spartanburg service agencies. Past CSI sites/tasks are listed here:
Spartanburg Children's Shelter: organizing clothing closet, organizing food pantry and kitchen, arts and crafts with children
TOTAL Ministries: sorting and bagging groceries, sorting clothing
